Report from Wexford Motor Club

Excerpts from Pacenotes Rally Magazine report:
Straker Makes his Mark!: ‘James Stafford and Richard Cleary were the early leaders in this year’s Wexford Stages Rally but when they load around two minutes with a broken rose-joint on stage four, Mark Straker and Michael Coady moved into a rally lead they were to hold on to until the finish. In the end, Straker’s winning margin was almost one minute over the Escort belonging to Wesley Patterson and Johnny Baird…..Straker cruised home to take a comfortable win, adding to his growing tally of victories on Irish tarmac.’

Email received from Mark after the Harry Flatters Stage Rally 27 July 2014:
We had a good run over Epynt on Sunday, although it was ultimately rather frustrating. We beat Damian Cole’s Focus WRC by between 5 and 10 seconds on four of the five longer 10 mile stages, but we both beat the bogey on each occasion. He then managed to take just a second off us here and there on the very short technical stages, which suited his car better, the result being that he was shown as the winner by 2 seconds, where in reality we were 20 seconds faster than him over the day.

Email received from Mark in May 2014:
I just wanted to let you know that we took the Darrian to compete in the Irish “Mk2 Escort Challenge” (i.e. the Carlow Rally) over the weekend, and that we managed to take the fight to Ireland’s top Escort boys for the first time!
This weekend I started without traction control, and for the first mile of the first stage it was impossible to touch the throttle as the road was damp and dirty, so I switched it back on at a slow corner 1 mile in, and it transformed the car. For the rest of the day I was able to be as aggressive as I wanted to be with the throttle, and the car just accelerated with a nice amount of oversteer, which later in the afternoon I was able to use to help steer the car through corners, in the same way that the Moto GP riders drift their bikes using traction control. So very happy with it in the end.
Our last three stages, as we got more confident, saw us beating two of the top Irish Escort drivers, Wesley Patterson & Frank Kelly by about 10 seconds over 6 minutes, and without a puncture after Stage 1, we’d have finishing 8th overall, splitting those two guys.

Mark & Jeremy Straker won on the FAT ALBERT STAGES 2013, Keevil Airfield, Wiltshire on the 26th October.

‘That’s four wins on the trot then’

Stephens and George Harry Flatters Rally, Epynt: Overall Winner Mark Straker/Neil Harrison – 1h03m17.3s

Text received from Mark after the Epynt Rally Stages, 28 July 2013
We did it! Beat all the national boys in their 4WD World Rally Cars over Epynt in the wet! 1st overall again, that’s a hat trick!

An excerpt from the Motorsport News report:
‘Mark Straker and Neil Harrison took a remarkable victory on the Stephens and George Harry Flatters Rally, overcoming four wheel-drive opposition on a damp and treacherously wet Epynt in their Darrian……….He took fastest time on 3 stages, this included beating the bogey by seven seconds on SS6 and despite having to drive through a heavy downpour on SS5. The Farnborough driver arrived at the lunch halt with a 12s lead over Lloyd, with Cole a further 5s behind’
